What Is ySEO, and Why Did We Build It?

I run a small web shop, and for years my days went like this: check Google rankings in one tool, pull Search Console numbers in another, paste everything into a spreadsheet, and try to guess whether any of it actually mattered. The tools worked, sort of. They just never talked to each other. And none of them had anything useful to say about the new search results nobody was tracking yet.

So we built our own. It’s called ySEO. This post is a plain-language walkthrough of what it does and why we think a lot of webmasters are going to need something like it sooner than they expect.

The short version

ySEO is an AI SEO tool aimed at people who run their own sites — not agencies with big budgets. It does four things in one dashboard:

  1. Tracks your keyword rankings, updated daily, with history graphs and alerts when a position moves
  2. Pulls in your Google Search Console data — impressions, clicks, click-through rate, average position
  3. Runs an audit of how “visible” your content is to AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, then tells you what to fix
  4. Generates and maintains an llms.txt file for your site

There’s a native iOS app too, called ySEO Rank, so you can check rankings from your phone without opening a laptop.

Why the AI-search piece is the part to pay attention to

Most SEO tools today still optimize for a ten-blue-links world. That world isn’t gone, but it’s getting smaller. More and more people get answers from AI assistants, and those assistants don’t rank a page the way Google does. They paraphrase. They cite. Sometimes they cite you; sometimes they cite your competitor who wrote almost the same article but happened to structure it better.

That shift is what generative engine optimization, or GEO, is about. It’s the practice of making your content the thing a large language model actually wants to reference. We added a GEO analyzer to ySEO for a simple reason: you can’t improve what you can’t see, and right now almost nobody can see how their site looks to an AI.

The analyzer checks things like how easily a model can pull clear facts from your page, whether your headings give a useful outline, and whether your content would hold up if it were summarized without your branding in the way. It’s not perfect — nobody’s GEO score is — but it gives you a starting point instead of a shrug.

The boring parts matter too

Keyword tracking and Search Console integration aren’t glamorous. They’re just necessary, and most tools make them annoying. Ours keeps the history so you can see a ranking dip that started three weeks ago and trace it to something you changed. The alerts are set to only ping you on moves that actually matter, not the daily one-position noise that would drive you crazy within a week.

What it costs

There’s a free plan. Paid plans start at $9.99 a month and go up to $49.99 for the Business tier, which is where keyword tracking goes up to 200 keywords. If you’re used to enterprise SEO platforms, that price will look like a typo. We’re fine with that.

Why “one more SEO tool” is a fair question

It is a fair question. There are a hundred SEO tools. What nudged us was talking to other small-site owners and hearing the same complaint over and over: the tool they pay for gives them reports, but not a clear next move. We wanted something that, when you open it, you can see what actually changed and what actually matters — and then go do that thing instead of sitting in a dashboard for an hour.

If that sounds useful, the fastest way to see if it’s for you is to plug in a real domain and look at the output. The GEO report alone is usually enough to tell you whether this tool speaks your language.
